As long as it suits you go for it. Just don't put beads as that can ruin the look extremely easy. I've even seen it done with bleach blonde hair and look good.

Before I say anything, let me just say that I am African American. There is nothing wrong with you getting braids if that is something that you want to do. Just know that LOTS of people -- black and white, friends, family, strangers, etc. -- will have comments about it or will be curious about why you did it, maybe thinking that you are trying to act like you are a different race. Life is short. My advice to you is to do what you want to do if it makes you happy and you are not negatively affecting anyone. When I have travelled to the Caribbean, I can't begin to tell you how many blond and European women were getting their hair braided by locals. It was unbelievable.

Fashion, clothing, hairstyles, makeup, accessories, etc., are all about reflecting your individuality. Who says you have to or should want to look like everyone else? Be YOU and have fun. I say do it, but be prepared to actively ignore some unkind comments you may hear from linear-thinking, unevolved individuals.
