I recently have gotten the chance to have my hair braided over the weekend, but I am still unsure on how to properly take care of them. I want them to stay strong and un-nappy for Monday (when school starts). I do know to keep them dry and use a du rag when sleeping... am I lost on anything, and can anyone tell me a bit more about caring for braids?
How do I care for braids?
Well... since braids are still hair, there bound to get greasy right? Yes. And to wash them with out getting them frizzy, you wash them normally. The only difference is, is that you dry them differently. The best way is to blow dry them (unless you have plastic beads at the end because they might melt.) They will aventually get fizzy even if you do take care of them really well. To keep down the fizz, you might want to put a wax or mild gel on after a shower so loose hair wont be every where. Hope you enjoy your braids!

get you some braid spray and spray daily. when dirty, buy some braid shampoo and shampoo and dry it or go to the hairdresser and let her shampoo and condition them. I hope this has been helpful. otherwise use the du rag as mentioned.

if you are a "sister" what you can use it a hair bonnet instead of a do-rag because it keeps you hair looking shinnier and fresh versus a do-rag you braid will look in tact but they will look more patted down and thats not cute. or if you cant use a hair bonnet try using a silk scarf that help to and of course keep you hair lightly moistened and i do mean lightly or your hair will look glued to your scalp. hope i helped.

Dont touch it, dont lay on it, the only time you durag should be off is when your leaving the house if your hair is very straight dont use any products with oils in it but if your just trying to show it on Monday dont let it see the light of day till then. turn your durag inside out so you dont get the seam line indent in your forehead oil sheen is good to use for thick and curly hair.
