I had my hair braided,as usual, down; to my scalp.
This 1 time the only thing I did differently was that I didn't put my hair grease on it EVERY night, the last 4/5 days b-4 takin' it out.
Here's the Q...could that have caused an ENORMOUS amount of my hair to come out? I've been having my hair braided since I was a child and I have NEVER had this much hair come out, at once. Not even from my entire head. It was only the front of my head.Could it have been the way she did it? I always have it TIGHT...i.e. if I don't get either a face lift or a headache it ain't right.

You definitely need to keep your hair moisterized. I understand wanting it to be pulled tight, but that puts a lot of strain on your hair. Our hair is naturally dry, so with it being pulled so much, it is easy for breakage to occur. Be careful with the front of your hair especially. I have locks now, but when I would get my hair braided, I would scrunch my forehead while they were braiding the front. Once you relax your forehead, the tightness isn't so bad. And your hair is less likely to pull out. But, definitely keep it moisterized. Grease... leave in conditioner... etc.

You've just answered your own problem. You shouldn't have a facelift after braids. Even the 'loose' ones are pullin on your hair like crazy. You hair has been weakened for too long. Also, does she cut the small hair on the side of the braid? That to is bad because you're also cutting your hair all over the place. This results in weak, uneven hair which has no choice but to fall off. My advice is loose the braids for a while hon and start treating your hair with products.

The hair grease could have a lot to do with it since it lubricates your strands. Also the fact that you always get your braids so tight you have weakened your hair. Try using a strengthening shampoo and conditioner by Pantene Relaxed and Natural and always remember to moisturize!
